Semi-supervised Visual Tracking of Marine Animals Using Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

نویسندگان

چکیده

In-situ visual observations of marine organisms is crucial to developing behavioural understandings and their relations surrounding ecosystem. Typically, these are collected via divers, tags, remotely-operated or human-piloted vehicles. Recently, however, autonomous underwater vehicles equipped with cameras embedded computers GPU capabilities being developed for a variety applications, in particular, can be used supplement existing data collection mechanisms where human operation tags more difficult. Existing approaches have focused on using fully-supervised tracking methods, but labelled many species severely lacking. Semi-supervised trackers may offer alternative solutions because they require less than counterparts. However, there not realistic datasets, the performance semi-supervised algorithms domain well understood. To better evaluate utility, this paper we provide (1) novel dataset specific animals located at http://warp.whoi.edu/vmat/, (2) an evaluation state-of-the-art context animal tracking, (3) real-world through demonstrations algorithm on-board vehicle track wild.

Adaptive Robust Control for Trajectory Tracking of Autonomous underwater Vehicles on Horizontal Plane

This manuscript addresses trajectory tracking problem of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) on the horizontal plane. Adaptive sliding mode control is employed in order to achieve a robust behavior against some uncertainty and ocean current disturbances, assuming that disturbance and its derivative are bounded by unknown boundary levels. The proposed approach is based on a dual layer adaptive...

Multistatic Processing and Tracking of Underwater Target Using Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

This paper discusses the use of distributed autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for multistatic processing and tracking of underwater target. A localized processing chain is implemented on each AUV to generate the contact report of an underwater target that is transmitted to a command center via underwater acoustic communications (UWA). The contact reports from several AUVs are combined toget...

Navigating Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are powerful tools for exploring, investigating and managing our ocean resources. As the capabilities of these platforms continue to expand and they continue to mature as operational assets, navigation remains a fundamental technological component. This chapter presents a road map for the vehicle designer to aid in integrating the latest navigation methods ...

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

Navigation is one of the most critical factors in determining the operational suitability of any unmanned vehicle for its designated environment. In fully autonomous vehicles, due to the lack of a human operator to perform the navigation task, there is a fundamental requirement to incorporate estimation techniques that can provide the desired information necessary for navigation. Such informati...
